On their debut album „God at the Casino“, the upcoming Belgian-French triumvirate manages a remarkable combination. Belgian saxophonist Manuel Hermia connects the achievements of classic free jazz with Indian and Arabic music. He is a fervent bansuri player and indulges his passion for the instrument in the bands Slang and Orchestra Nazionale Della Luna. On his instrument, French cellist Valentin Ceccaldi, one half of the ubiquitous Ceccaldi brothers, commands a range that includes heavy metal textures, brass-like elements and percussive storms as well as African bass lute sounds – and he knows how to apply these elements with great energetic charge. Drummer Sylvain Darrifourcq is profoundly involved with the Ceccaldi brothers in bands like IN LOVE WITH or Shapin’ With MILESDAVISQUINTET!. He infuses things with a sense of humour and is an equally ruthless and creative drummer, who likes to highlight physicality and poly speed. Fertile soil, all in all, for sensual entertainment. With this trinity, only a very few particles are enough to evolve and become charged with great excitement. Sometimes this ends up highly explosive, sometimes it reaches towards the depths of the space they illuminate. God at the casino: no more, no less.
